The Green Spa Toolkit is designed as a “first-steps” guide to greening a spa’s operations. It is written for busy spa professionals who are looking for guidance to launch greening programs. The Toolkit is intended to serve as a living document that will evolve with the rapidly changing field of industry greening.

GSN's Sustainability Assessment Tool (SAT) is a revolutionary tool -- the first of its kind developed specifically for the spa industry by leaders in the burgeoning field of spa greening. During three days of intensive meetings in the fall of 2008, 24 GSN members -- from across the country and throughout the spa industry -- met to hammer out the world's first sustainability assessment tool for GSN member spas to use in their migration to becoming greener businesses.

Since its inception, the SAT has been refined and updated, thanks to a generous sponsorship from Chado-En Tea Docents. Like the Toolkit, the SAT is available for GSN members to use to measure their greening progress and to feed their experiences back into the assessment process. The Sustainability Assessment Tool is not intended to serve as a certification, but rather as a series of benchmarks and goals with which individual organizations can construct their own unique path to greening.

The Green Spa Toolkit is being written in stages by GSN, and is available to members, who are invited to provide feedback and questions to help us shape the Toolkit into the optimum resource for spa greening.
